Snow Removal

The Village is responsible for maintaining all streets within its boundaries; thus it is responsible for clearing the Village streets of snow and ice in the winter. VMA contracts with an independent contractor to provide snow plowing, however, Village regulations require that residents are responsible for clearing sidewalks in front of their property of snow and ice within 24 hours after a storm ceases. Sidewalks must be safe for pedestrians. Residents who occupy corner lots are responsible for sidewalks in front and on the side of their property. Fines can be assessed for non-compliance with Village regulations. The Village provides sidewalk shoveling services for residents who, due to age or disability are unable to do so themselves.
